Our first major destination for the Italian part of the tour is Pisa. However, the campsites in the immediate locality of Pisa are rather expensive. We discovered Camping Lago Le Tamerici through the ACSI guide. We sent an email to ask about pitches for a nine metre motorhome. The reply was reassuring, hence we made a reservation.

The site itself is about six miles from Pisa. S couple of miles from site is the small village of Coltano. The local bus runs from Coltano to Pisa. At the time of our visit, we paid just 2.20 euro for a return ticket. Bus tickets are available from the tobacconist shop in Coltano. During our stay at Camping Lago Le Tamerici, the site was providing a minibus transfer to the bus stop.

Good sized pitches for all – Camping Lago le Tamerici

All the usual facilities were present at Camping Lago Le Tamerici, including laundry, pot wash, toilets/showers etc. Pitches are of a very generous size and many could accommodate an RV with ease. Of equal importance, we found access to the pitches to be easy too! Unusually, the site offers cycle and canoe hire – during our stay this facility was free of charge. There is also an onsite bar/bistro and in the morning, it was possible to purchase fresh rolls and croissants etc.

Directions to Camping Lago Le Tamerici

We had read a couple of other reviews on the internet suggesting the site was difficult to find. We did not have this problem but we were not using satnav. From the SS1/Aurelia, Coltano is signposted. A short distance along the road to Coltano, there are many clear signs to Camping Lago Le Tamerici.

The site is part of a working farm. We were amazed when the driver of tractor became the receptionist at Camping Lago Le Tamerici!

Given the close proximity to Pisa, generous sized pitches and cycle hire, this is a site worthy of a repeat visit.
