After visiting Luxembourg, we were on the look out for a night stop. The ACSI book suggested that Camping Alter Bahnhof at Metzdorf might fit the bill. Literally a stone’s throw from the border with Luxembourg, this German site is one of not too many that are open all rear round.

Toilet/shower block is centrally heated

On arrival, we pitched ourselves and then paid at the owner’s house, directed there from a sign on the reception building! We were given the codes for the free wifi and also a key for the amenity block.

On site facilities at Camping Alter Bahnhof include

  • Heated shower blocks
  • Pot wash
  • Chemical disposal point
  • Bar/cafe (seasonal)
  • Free wifi
  • Childrens play area
  • Riverside location
  • All grass pitches
  • Laundry (three euro)
Camping Alter Bahnhof

All grass pitches – a bit soft at this time of year!

This site did not look particularly attractive, possibly more so noting the time of year. However, the river side location made for a quiet enough overnight stop. This is probably a very pleasant location in the summer months. All other units on site looked to be semi permanent/seasonal caravans. It is worth noting the grass was very soft – be careful with motorhomes!

The price in conjunction iwth the ACSI card for the 2016 season dates is just fourteen euro. This includes electrical hook up and wifi. In this day and age, that’s a bargain!
