With any new motorhome or caravan, no matter how good the factory spec is, there is always room for a few additional items to be retro fitted. One of the first extras on the shopping list for the Kon-tiki Black Edition was an additional rubbish bin. This motorhome and caravan waste bin fits the bill – and the cupboard (!) perfectly. It also offers good value for money, coming in at around £10.00.

The additional lidded waste bin

Ordered on-line, the package consisted of the bin, a lid, fixing bracket and screws. There’s also a draw string that  enables the motorhome and caravan waste bin to open automatically when mounted inside a cupboard door. I fitted the bin on the “trapdoor” that connects the inside of the motorhome to the rear garage. This waste bin has a higher holding capacity than the standard specification bin. A standard supermarket carrier bag makes a good bin liner.

Motorhome and caravan waste bin – a very easy DIY

Fitting is easy with just three screws required, although planning exactly where to put the bin takes a few minutes. For example – there might be an obstacle at the other side of the door. To check for this, I Sellotaped the bin to the cupboard door to get the positioning right, before screwing the bracket in place. Whilst the bin is held in place with tape or Blu-tack, have a dry run opening and closing the door a few times to make sure the bin is correctly positioned. This avoid making unnecessary holes in the woodwork and avoids too much bad language!

Like many motorhomes and caravans, the standard bin is fitted to the exterior door. This is now a storage place for light weight items such as dusters and cleaning cloths.

The waste bin was purchased from Amazon and a similar type is available at O’Leary Motorhomes
