The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing (known also as Menepoort) is a war memorial to the many servicemen who lost their lives during World War I.

After the completion of Menin Gate,  the residents of the town wished to express their gratitude to the service personnel whom founght and liberated the town. Consequently, there is a memorial every evening at 8pm. The road through the arch is closed and crowds gather.
