Vauxhall Vivaro camper – insulation

The next stage in our Vauxhall Vivaro camper conversion from van to motorhome relates to the heating. Now then, regular readers will know I much prefer warm and sunny. We are usually in hot conditions – not in the cold. We do not cut any corners with our Vauxhall Vivaro camper insulation project. As a result, we hope to use the camper throughout the year.

With the van stripped of anything relating to it’s original interior, a good clean is needed. We clean all surface with warm soapy water and allow to dry. A wipe over with meths spirit further ensures the metal surfaces are clean. This time consuming process is absolutely vital. This ensures that the sticky back insulation material sticks to the metal. If you use the cheaper insulating foam that is not self adhesive, you will require a lot of the double sided tape as shown above!

There are various types of insulating product available. We choose a more expensive version and we have friends who have used and recommended this product to us.

It is worth taking your time and planning which area to insulate first, then the next and so on. Some approximate measurements are taken and then the material is cut. This is simply pressed into place before moving onto the next piece. Areas which are awkward in shape are easily insulated using left over pieces. It is important to ensure there are no gaps!
