The decision to stay at Camping La Tuilerie was quite accidental. I had left Randa in Switzerland earlier in the morning with an expectation of driving until about 1700 that day, so reaching Charmes or Metz. However, the weather was gorgeous, unbroken sunshine so I considered stopping elsewhere. A sign post on the “N57” indicated “camping” so I followed it – and a few miles later I was at Camping La Tuilerie, arriving just after one in the afternoon.  I pulled up and the place was deserted. I found the owner who offered me any pitch I chose – the price – 8.50 euro including hook up! Words cannot describe Camping La Tuilerie – it was like going back in time, so here are plenty of photographs. You have not read this wrong, it was 8.50 euro for the night with hook up!

The site is “divided” into three areas. The main area around the pool is quite shaded, then there are two small fields just across the access road. Electric hook up is available in all locations. However, you might need a long hook up lead. Some connections feature the CEE (blue type) and others were the continental two pin.

Despite the country lanes, there were no access issues and on site, as you can see, room for a bus!

Facilities at Camping La Tuilerie

On site facilities are unique to say the least. The amenity block is very old and some what quaint, but very clean. A log burner provides hot water to the showers! The showers had a hot and cold tap – good pressure and nice hot water.  To summarise what is on site…

• Grass pitches with or without hook up (reverse polarity indicated by our on board equipment)
• Small swimming pool
• Very old fashioned toilets/showers
• Pot wash area
• CDP
• The Tavern – in the high season, drinks, chips and “crepes”

There is a bakery in the town of Boult and this is walkable. Even the bakery was old fashioned – really old weighing scales and bread to die for!

Later in the day, a Dutch caravan appeared so I did not feel quite so guilty about the log burner being lit just for me! I have never stayed on a site as rural and beautiful as this and must make a repeat visit to Camping La Tuilerie but stay for longer. I couldn’t find a website for Camping la Tuilerie. However, there are some details on this ACSI page.
