Bruges motorhome aire is just outside the city centre, adjacent to the canal. There are some signs to direct you, but only “when close”.

*****update – please refer to this post for upto date information. The second aire mentioned in this post is closed. Parking/night stop remains available adjacent to the coach park*****

Bruges is the capital of the West Flanders region in north-west Belgium, a good hour or so in driving time from Calais. The city has beautiful medieval style buildings, cobbled streets and horse-drawn carriage rides, plus of course many chocolatiers!

Bruges 2

Whilst spending a couple of hours at leisure in Bruges, we thought about using the Bruges motorhome aire as a parking place. Unfortunately, this aire has a set tariff of nineteen euro in the low season and twenty-five euro in the high season. Consequently, a two-hour stop over would be a very costly affair. We were able to park elsewhere but decided to take a closer look at the aire and it’s surroundings none the less.

Location of the Bruges motorhome aire

The aire is in two separate sections, one part is next to the coach park area, adjacent to the marina, whilst the other part is across the road, with trees behind it. If I were staying, I would choose the aire closest to the marina. These parking places are further from the road and thus are likely to offer a more restful stopover!

Both parts of the Bruges motorhome aire are accessed through a barrier and payment is made at a machine. There is fresh water available (fifty cents) and grey facilities. Electric hook ups are provided. All parking spaces are on hard stands ensuring that this camper stop is “all seasons”.

The Bruges motorhome aire is very neat and formal, but at 19 – 25 euro, it does not really cater for a short visit, but would make a good night stop.

Bruges stellplatz

The previous day, we had stayed on a French aire costing 9.50 euro. The aire was very busy, despite being winter! The Bruges aire was almost deserted. Have the parking authority out priced motorhomes from the town? Would an hourly rate be beneficial too, like in the coach park? Incidentally, coach parking was 13 euro for one hour.

This link will take you to parking providers website.

Details of this stellplatz are available in the Europe Camperstop book – well worth the money!
