Vivaro camper conversion – ply lining!

With windows in place and insulating work completed, the next task for our Vivaro camper conversion is the ply lining. There are some kits available for other vans such as the VW Transporter, but we could not find one at a sensible price for the Vivaro camper conversion.

Some of the plylining in place in our Vivaro camper conversion

Armed with a roll of old wallpaper, we made templates that served as a very rough – and I mean rough – outline of the area to be cut. Using drawing pins to fasten the paper to the board, carefully draw around the paper using a fine felt pen.

We keep more templates for futire use!

We use an electric jigsaw to cut the ply for speed, but a good quality hand saw would work OK. This piece of plywood is then placed against the area to be plylined and using a detail hand saw, trimmed to fit. Easy – no, not really, but a lot more cost effective that the kits!

Vivaro camper conversion – plylining, what do you need?

  • Plywood
  • Paper for a template
  • Drawing pins
  • Felt pen
  • Jigsaw
  • Handsaw
  • Patience!

If you are using a jigsaw for the first time, it is worth getting a few spare blades! We didn’t…but had to!
