The cost of a longer motorhome holiday

The Motorhome Voyager received an email asking about the cost of the cost of a longer motorhome holiday. We have just had almost five weeks away, and the costings are to hand. The total “bill” for the holiday came in at £686.69. That does not include food or going out etc, but includes the basics of a motorhome holiday – fuel, pitch fees, tolls. As an approximate, about £300 was spent on food, that included the initial load up in the UK – and believe me, the Kontiki was loaded. This figure also includes top ups overseas –  mostly bread, fresh veg, salad, meat etc. We do not include the cost of groceries etc in the cost of a holiday usually. Groceries are groceries, whether in Tesco Tiverton or Auchan in Antibes!

Diesel near Gravelines aire

There is no reason to take a full tank of diesel to France – it’s a lot cheaper there than the UK.

The total mileage covered was 2100 and the fuel used is “replaced” with great care – read this thread about buying fuel only in cheap places!

The Camper stops in Italy were just twelve euro per night with hook up. This is a big saving on campsites, even at ACSI rates

The majority of the journey was toll-free. We already had the Swiss paperwork from the last trip. The Swiss toll costs 32.50 Swiss Francs, about £21. This will actually cover three holidays, so I have allowed £7 into the maths for this last trip.

The costs are split as follows.

Diesel £394, covering the purchase of 369 litres of fuel, average price £1.07 per litre

Site fees/camper stops – £264.22 – some free nights such as at the Dunkerque ferry terminal and also the Simplon Pass

French tolls – nil

Italian tolls – £6.65

Tolls Switzerland – £7. (The Swiss toll/tax paperwork was obtained last year and is valid for 12 months. This will cover three holidays, so at a cost of 32.50 Swiss Francs, (£21), the average cost per holiday is £7.

Tolls UK – £4 (2 x £2 Dartford Crossing)

Sea Crossing – £11 cash plus £45 worth of Tesco coupons – see here

In addition, we found just over eleven euro cash that people had lost. We sold our twin tub for 190 euro making a profit of about 90 euro and also sold app

The cost of a longer motorhome holiday – making money!

We sold approximately 30 euro worth of accessories that we had retrieved from skips, bins and so on over the last couple of months!

That’s it – can’t really say anymore!
