Innsbruck city sightseeing – the Tyrolean capital.

Unfortunately, it  appears that motorhomes are not particularly welcome in Innsbruck. However, the city itself is well worth visiting. For our day of  Innsbruck city sightseeing, we walked from our base at Camping Kranebitterhof. The journey along a flat walkway takes about one hour. However buses are available from close to the site.

Innsbruck city sightseeing – the Bergisel ski jump.

The capital of the Tyrol region, Innsbruck lies along the banks of the River Inn. The city is home to many winter sports. Noteworthy of a mention is the Bergisel ski jump. You may recall that “Eddie the Eagle” performed a ski jump here in the winter Olympics back in 1988. The Bergisel ski jump has a visitor centre and a restaurant. Golden Roof Innsbruck

Possibly one of the most famous visitor attractions in Innsbruck is the “Golden Roof”, known also as Goldenes Dachl. The Golden Roof  was created using over 2700 copper tiles, to mark the wedding of Emperor Maximillian I to his wife, Bianca. The couple used the balcony to observe event taking place in the square below.

Innsbruck offers various other visitor attractions such as the Alpine Zoo, the Tyrolean Folk Museum and the Hofgarten. Modern day Innsbruck offers a wealth of shops for varying budgets and a good selection of eateries. Specialities include strudels and stews.

Innsbruck city sightseeing – where to stay.

There are a few campsites within easy reach of the city. Camping Kranebitterhof and Camping Stigger are to the west of Innsbruck. Both have easy access to local buses. Camping Natterer See is south of Innsbruck and offers guests a shuttle bus transfer into the city centre. The closest stellplatz is a few miles away at Hall in Tyrol.
